Getting around Rhodes island – Discover what cheap holidays to Rhodes really means!

I arrived to Rhodes in the middle of July and thanks to all inclusive package from TUI, I even made it to travel there without spending all of my summer vacations budget. Rhodes is easily one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, no trip to Aegean Sea is complete without visiting the Medieval Old city of Rhodes. It was just a few years ago when I visited the island and mostly Rhodes beaches for the first time and I was so thrilled by how much this island has to offer. Thanks to that trip to Rhodes back then, this fantastic island became one of the top 10 favourite destinations on my bucket list.

What makes Rhodes stunning?

What is most fascinating about Rhodes city is without a doubt its rich history. Historically, Rhodes island had been captured by the Ottomans and Italians and this might be one of the reasons that makes the island’s architecture so colourful. Thanks to this, Rhodes was home to knights, crusades and and some of the most gorgeous castles you’ll find anywhere in the world. I truly thing that the best part of visiting Rhodes though lies on its locals amazing hospitality. So many locals who gave me instructions, tips, and share with me their favourite places always hidden away from the obvious touristic spots. I found out that these were certainlly the most fantastic places to be. Bars with the best sea view, restaurants with the most exquisite sea cuisine and the most gorgeous beach places for swimming and sunbathing!

Ready to fall in love with Rhodes? Here, you’ll find the ultimate island’s travel guide!
  1. Rhodes is famous for its isolated beaches and this is why you need to make an extra effort to discover this beauty outside the main city.  As a Greek girl, a solo traveler and mostly a licensed skipper, speaking on my own, I can’t stress how important is to explore the inhabitant beaches of Rhodes by sailing. Even better, in cosmopolitan islands like Rhodes where the competition among the sailing boat owners is pretty hight and therefore you can get the best prices with all inclusive options and on top of that the best customer service ever. I rented a sailing boat for 6 hours along with 5 more tourists, the cost was 60 euros and in this price drinks, fruits and snacks were included.  To get around Rhodes island by foot, taxi, or even bus is pretty easy, however  sailing is another lever of authentic travel experience. What I  suggest, is taking a short walk across the port and negotiate the best tour prices face to face with the sailing owners. My own favourite yautch was Socrates and the sailing boat I would go for sailing again is the Seamaster.
  2. If you are into historical sight-seeing activities, one of the must-do stuff in Rhodes is visiting the Archaeological Museum, the castle-like Palace of the Grand Master and Colossus of Rhodes. For those that this might sound boring, you are really mistaken. I promise you the Archaeological Museum with the medieval architecture, the stunning king’s internal gardens and the endless terrace will change your mind. You might even chose this spot just for taking pictures for your social media. The place has one of the best atmospheric auras I have ever seen in an island’s Greek museum.
  3. Island exploring/hopping in Rhodes is easy and cheap. I took an early morning bus to visit the stunning city of Lindos and had a very good experience. Money wise, it was 8 euros for 2 course trip (alter-retour), which was quite resonable. If you’re traveling between villages in Rhodes, again bus travel is the way to go. One of the greatest places to visit in Lindos is the Acropolis and the tiny picturesque port of Saint Paul.
  4. For an amazing dinning experience visit the most beautiful restaurants on the main picturesque street of the Old City, Ta Petaladika. Another amazing place to visit if you are a great fan of fresh sea food is To Paragadi. For  restaurant spots farther afield, Hatzikelis, Koukos and The Last Battler  are great options. Todo Bien is the best place to go if you enjoy Latin music but if you prefer to immerse yourself in Greek pop music better to go to Soho Old Town.
